With the onset of summer come a host of outside lawn care duties. Millions toil away in their front yard mowing, weeding, and trimming to make their home as beautiful outside as possible. Some people have large yards and elaborate walkways that require a good amount of tender loving care. But, most homes just have an average or small yard with a sidewalk to the front door. For these folks, Black & Decker has come out with the 1.8 amp electric grass trimmer. The Black & Decker Electric Grass Trimmer is ideal for smaller yards and homeowners with smaller trimming needs. A powerful 1.8 amp motor propels the spinning head at 11,000 rpms.
It offers a more than generous 9 inch cutting swath to make quick work of lawn chores. Best of all, the grass trimmer is electric, making for one less gas consuming piece of equipment around the house. Any standard outdoor extension cord can be attached to the trimmer for power and thanks to the handy cord-lock mechanism the cord will never come unplugged accidentally in the middle of a job. Many users preferred the more precise cuts the Black & Decker Electric Grass Trimmer offered compared to more powerful gas powered models, but others did take issues with the Black & Decker’s more tedious requirements. While effective, some detractors felt the trimmer was underpowered even for small yards.

Customer reviews are a great way to research a product and find out if it truly delivers. Here are a few owner comments from Black & Decker ST1000 9-Inch 1.8 amp Electric Grass Trimmer reviews.
This small, light weight trimming/edging tool cuts in 9-inch swathes at a time. Because of its size, it is more controllable than the larger (12″ – 14″) trimmers. The larger, more powerful trimmers are not suitable for many lawns. I took back one because of its imprecise cutting. The powerful motor resulted in the shredding of a wood edging that separates the lawn from an adjacent mulched area. One problem with all trimmers is that there is nothing to catch the flying bits of lawn. The only thing that might help in the future is to lay a sheet over the mulched area adjacent to the lawn to catch the cuttings, and move the sheet as I go along. Perhaps this should come with a sheet? Again, the smaller, less powerful machine’s precision reduces excess trimmings. This is also a less noisy machine and is easier to store than the more powerful trimmers.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the ability of this trimmer. The handle length is not adjustable, but it is long enough that I stand up straight when using it. The light weight makes it easy to use with one hand. The bounce feed works fairly well, but I have found it easier to just turn the trimmer over, press the feed button with my thumb and pull out a little line when needed. I like the built in extension cord lock, it keeps the cord from coming unplugged; I don’t understand how some reviewers are having their cord come unplugged. Maybe they are using those thin, flat, underrated extension cords that are not meant to be used with power tools anyway. I use a round cord designed for outdoor use and the cord lock holds it fine. The small motor does not bog down like I thought it would when cutting through reasonably thick stuff, and it does not damage wooden borders like my previous powerful trimmer did.
